Batavia arrack is the most recognizable style of arrack, a type of rum made in southeast Asia (not to be confused with arak, an anise-flavored Middle Eastern spirit). Batavia-style arrack is Indonesian, and is typically made from sugarcane and fermented red rice. It’s wonderfully complex and funky, with a warm sweetness and fruity, smoky, and even spicy notes that make it perfect for tiki and tropical cocktails.
