Well worth the price

Get the App

The Cocktail Party app puts these drink – and hundreds more – in your pocket, and tells you what you can make from the ingredients you have at home. It's the best $3.99 you'll ever spend on a drink.

This app ROCKS!!!

I've used a number of mix drink apps, and this one is by FAR the BEST! I've made a couple dozen drinks so far, and they're delicious. It suits my quality wants while (more importantly) suiting my inherent laziness. You put in what you have on hand, and it automatically lists all the drinks you can make! There's info on all the ingredients, which is pretty neat to learn some backstory. What I truly like is I can click an ingredient and it shows how many more drinks I can make. It's pretty fun picking up a new item and seeing 8 new drinks to try. There's a setting on the iPad that locks the app on so people can switch on the mixing app without letting anyone out of it, so I leave it by the bar and people can use it without worry of people snooping around. ;) The combination of all the drinks and this app that makes searching for, and making a drink, easy peezy lemon squeezey, and gives a real feeling of sophistication.

The Cocktail of the Week is an old favorite of ours: Daddy Don't Make Dinner by Laura Johnson (@laurakayjohnson) at You & Yours Distilling Co. (@youandyourssd) in San Diego . It's a perfect spring drink, from its pretty color and crisp berry flavor down to its qurky name – anyone know the backstory on that?

Strawberries are in season where we are, so for today's CotW, we stuck with a true classic: the Strawberry Daiquiri. We tested the heck out of this one to find the best recipe; shockingly, one big strawberry (or two small ones), muddled in syrup, is really all you need!

Everyone's always asking us for drink ideas on Fridays - so we decided to make it official! Today's Cocktail of the Week is the Stormy Weather by Trudy Thomas at @camelbackinn in Scottsdale, Arizona. It's the perfect cure for the cold front that hit much of North America this week (including normally-sunny Arizona, where some areas saw snow for the first time in decades!)

Got an idea for next week's theme? Let us know in the comments!

Mezcal and creamy horchata are a match made for sipping by the warmth of a cozy fire, just as the Fireside’s name suggests. It’s the creation of Brandon Matzek, a San Diego-based food writer and photographer. Matzek calls for only a bit of mezcal to bring a touch of smoke alongside an aged tequila, bolstered by the warm spice of cinnamon syrup and walnut bitters.

2 parts Horchata
1 part Aged tequila
½ part Mezcal
½ part Cinnamon syrup
2 dashes Walnut bitters

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into an ice-filled short glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Jägermeister (a sweet Kräuterlikör) gets a bad rap, especially in the states, for its syrupy-sweet medicinal flavor and record of inebriating college students far beyond their capabilities. Peel back that undue reputation, though, and you’ll find a delicious digestif with baking-spice flavors that works wonderfully in rich, fruit-forward cocktails – like this Black Forest Sour.

1⅓ part Kräuterlikör
1 tsp Cherry brandy
part Lemon juice
⅓ part Pineapple juice
⅓ part Simple syrup
½ part Egg white

Dry-shake all ingredients first without ice, then again with ice added. Double-strain through a fine mesh strainer into a short ice-filled glass. Garnish with cherry (or three!) on a skewer, rested atop the foam.
