Bells Will be Ringing

Bells Will Be Ringing is an appropriately warm, homey drink, perfect for something named after the classic Christmas song, “Please Come Home for Christmas (Bells Will Be Ringing).”
Invented by Michelle Shriver at Dutch & Company in Richmond, Virginia, the drink is a comforting slice of fruitcake, dripping with spice syrup and jam-packed with apples, cherries, and pineapples.
Shriver’s recipe calls for a couple of coins of fresh ginger to be muddled to extract ginger juice – but if you don’t mind a bit of extra sweetness, ginger syrup or ginger liqueur works nearly as well.

Ingredients
- 1 part Dark rum or Black rum or Demerara rum or Aged rum
- 1 part Apple brandy
- ½ part Cherry brandy
- ¼ part Amaretto or Crème de noyaux
- 1 part Pineapple syrup
- ½ part Lemon juice
- ¼ part Ginger juice or Ginger syrup or Ginger liqueur
- 1 part hot Earl Grey tea
Instructions
Build in a heatproof glass in the order given. Top with hot water – about three ounces or 90mL – and stir to combine. Garnish with an orange twist.
