Five Knots is an excellent way to show off the funky burnt-molasses flavors of a good Jamaican rum (preferably a black rum; creator Shannon Mustipher calls for Hamilton Jamaican Pot Still Black Rum). An aged rhum agricole (Mustipher calls for La Favorite Coeur d’Ambre Rhum Agricole) lends a toasty, grassy flavor. Chocolate, coffee, passion fruit, and lime flavors complete the essence of warm tropical sunlight.
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into an ice-filled short glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick (you can light it and then put it out for a smoky note), grated nutmeg, and/or an orange slice.
