The Hawaiian Sunset is a rare vodka-based tiki cocktail, hailing from the now-defunct Aku Aku Polynesian Restaurant at the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas. The recipe was reprinted in the Smuggler’s Cove book, a treasure trove of tiki drinks.
It’s a lovely cocktail, and so easy to drink. The orgeat-grenadine-citrus combo has a candy-esque flavor without being overwhelmingly sweet. It’s a simple, delicious little tropical sour.
Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lime twist.
