Paleta

Paleta means “small stick” in Spanish, and it’s the Mexican term for a frozen treat (usually with a small woodlen handle, hence the name) made most often from fresh fruits. This paleta-in-cocktail-form comes to us from San Diego mixologist Anthony Schmidt, and it contains all the fresh flavors we love in a summer treat.

Schmidt calls for a jalapeño shrub, but any spicy bitters or tincture will do since you only need a few drops.

A rimmed glass is lovely with this drink. Schmidt’s recipe calls for the rim to be made from an equal-parts mix of Old Bay seasoning, Tajin, and sugar. Truly, any mixture of salt, sugar, and/or spices will be delicious.
