Sumatra Kula

The Sumatra Kula is a classic Don the Beachcomber recipe, dug up and refined by Jeff “Beachbum” Berry. It’s a rare tiki cocktail, in that it lacks pineapple juice and takes its sweetness from honey rather than sugar. Aside from those details, it’s a fairly straightforward tiki drink that takes most of its flavors from a blend of three citrus juices.
Beachbum’s updated recipe called for “lightly aged” rum. If you don’t have one that perfectly fits the bill, your favorite light or aged rum will do just fine.

Ingredients
- 2 parts Aged rum or Light rum
- ¾ part Honey syrup
- ¾ part Grapefruit juice
- ¾ part Orange juice
- ½ part Lime juice
Instructions
Lightly shake all ingredients with crushed or pebble ice. Pour unstrained into a tall glass, goblet, or tiki mug. Garnish with mint, lime, and a pineapple spear or two, if you’ve got ’em.
