Weathered Axe

The Weathered Axe, from Danny Shapiro at Chicago’s Scofflaw, is a lovely light citrus sour with some intrigue from the white wine apéritif (Cocchi Americano, preferably).
Shapiro’s recipe calls for 100-proof bourbon, but we’ve also tried it with standard 86-proof bourbon and it’s just as lovely.

Ingredients
- 1½ parts Overproof Bourbon
- ½ part White wine apéritif
- ½ part Triple sec
- ¾ part Lemon juice
- ½ part Ginger syrup
Instructions
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into an ice-filled short glass. Garnish with a sprig of mint or rosemary.
