Whoa Mama

The Whoa Mama is a lovely little gem invented by Nancy Mitchell, the author of the Backyard Bartender blog. Mitchell had just picked up her first bottle of mezcal, and despite being new to it managed to come up with one of our favorite drinks for highlighting the lovely flavor of mezcal.
Mitchell calls for joven (unaged) mezcal, which has more of a sharp, vegetal agave flavor than aged mezcal. That said, both do well in this drink – and it’s even lovely with regular old tequila, although we missed the smoky campfire notes mezcal brings to the party.

Ingredients
- 1½ parts Mezcal or Aged tequila or Blanco tequila
- ¾ part Lime juice
- ½ part Pomegranate molasses
- 2 parts Ginger beer
Instructions
Shake all ingredients (except the ginger beer) with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or an ice-filled short glass. Top with ginger beer, stir gently to incorporate, and garnish with a wheel or wedge of lime.
