Daddy Don’t Make Dinner
We don’t know the story behind the name of this drink from Laura Johnson at You & Yours Distilling Co. in San Diego, but we love it almost as much as we love the crisp, bright flavor and jewel-toned ruby-violet color.
Muddling the berries enough to get all the juice out will necessarily smash them to bits, so you may find it’s difficult to pour the drink from your shaker. A wire-mesh strainer is the best tool for the job here; strain the drink into a large measuring cup and then pour into the glass to avoid a big purple mess.
- 1½ parts Vodka or Citrus vodka or Gin
- ½ part Lemon juice
- ½ part Honey syrup
- 4 whole Blackberry
- 1 part Sparkling water
Muddle blackberries in shaker. Add vodka, lemon, honey syrup, and ice and shake the living daylights out of it. Pour through a fine mesh strainer into an ice-filled tall glass. Top with sparkling water. Garnish with blackberries and a freshly-slapped sprig of mint.
