Mezcal and creamy horchata are a match made for sipping by the warmth of a cozy fire, just as the Fireside’s name suggests. It’s the creation of Brandon Matzek, a San Diego-based food writer and photographer. Matzek calls for only a bit of mezcal to bring a touch of smoke alongside an aged tequila, bolstered by the warm spice of cinnamon syrup and walnut bitters. Other bitters can do nicely here, like chocolate or spice bitters.
