San Salvador

The San Salvador is a delicious, simple rum sour recipe we found in the pages of Dale DeGroff’s classic tome, The Craft of the Cocktail.
DeGroff’s recipes are often a mite too sweet for the modern palate, so we eyed the orange curaçao measure with suspicion; DeGroff’s recipes typically call for sweeter brands like Grand Marnier.
We needn’t have worried! The San Salvador is a rich, flavorful, well-balanced, and decidedly rum-forward drink, even when made with Grand Marnier – and it’s still quite lovely with a drier curaçao, too.

Ingredients
- 1½ parts Dark rum or Demerara rum
- 1 part Orange curaçao
- 1½ parts Orange juice
- ½ part Lime juice
Instructions
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into an ice-filled short glass. Garnish with a slice of lime or orange – or both!
