The Trick Nog is a holiday specialty from Trick Dog (get it? ahahaaa) in San Francisco. It’s a nice cherry-and-orange-spice twist on the original, with plenty of creamy body and a pleasantly fruitcake-y scent. Overproof bourbon is ideal, but the regular-octane stuff’ll do.
- 2½ parts Bourbon
- 1 tsp Cherry brandy
- ½ part Orange juice
- ½ part Sweet cream or Heavy whipping cream or Milk
- ½ part Brown sugar syrup
- 1 whole Egg
Dry-shake all ingredients first without ice, then again with ice added. Double-strain through a fine mesh strainer into a chilled cocktail or coupe glass. Garnish with a dusting of freshly-grated nutmeg.
