Berry Highball cocktail with berries, light-colored spirit, and soda

Berry Highball

This is less a formal recipe than it is a general template for an easy-drinking, seasonal sipper that makes use of whatever fresh berries are at the market. The measurements aren’t strict; you just need a small handful of berries, an appropriate amount of spirit for the day’s doings, and enough soda to lengthen it all out.

Add the fruit to the bottom of a tall glass or goblet and muddle to release the juices. Pack ice on top of the fruit, and pour the spirits over. Top with the soda. Garnish with mint and more fresh berries, if you like, and serve with a straw.
