Jitters

This simple twist on the classic daiquiri comes to us from Jeff “Beachbum” Berry, one of the world’s foremost experts in Tiki cocktail culture. He dug up this old recipe for his book Potions of the Carribean. If you love tiki cocktails, you really must have that book!

It’s a solid recipe; chocolate and lime are an excellent pair that we don’t see as often as we’d like. It’s very much like the El Floridita, but crisper and brighter.

Originally, this drink was called “Hitler’s Jitters,” perhaps named in an effort to amuse the American oilmen patronizing the hotel bars of Venezuela in the 1930s, when the drink was invented. A Cocktail Party user wrote to us and gently objected to having to see that name, even in jest. We think that’s a fair viewpoint, so we’ve shortened the name to just “Jitters.”

I love this app

Super practical, informative, easy to use, even inspiring for lovers of cocktails or just those curious to try a few recipes over time and keep an inventory of favorite recipes handy. Updated fairly judiciously, thankfully, so it isn’t cluttered up with unproven concoctions resulting in an overwhelmingly-sized library with too many ridiculous or middling cocktails. Attractive, welcoming, well-designed UI.
