Around the holidays, we find ourselves craving creamy fernet drinks – the bracing herbal digestif makes for a sophisticated upgrade on the season’s typical saccharine-sweet mint cocktails.
The Noggin Knocker, from Chris Spear at Little Perfect Bites, is the epitome of these mentholated quaffs. A touch of warm maple adds a reasonable amount of sweetness, and brings out a matching note of chocolate from the bourbon base. We’ve made it with both Fernet Branca and the much-mintier Fernet Branca Menta, and found it to be quite charming either way.
