Lucien Gaudin

The Lucien Gaudin is a bright, bitter, spirit-forward cocktail with a stunning red color. It’s named for a French fencer who took home two Olympic gold medals in the 20s. It is essentially a Negroni, with triple sec to soften and sweeten it.
Campari is typically called for, although you could substitute another bitter citrus apéritif. Aperol, however, would sweeten the drink too much, upsetting the delicate balance of the recipe.

Ingredients
- 1 part Gin
- ½ part Bitter orange apéritif
- ½ part Triple sec
- ½ part Dry vermouth
Instructions
Stir all ingredients with ice, and strain into a small chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist, preferably speared on a little sword pick.
