Allspice dram is a liqueur made from rum and allspice, the dried berry of the Jamaican Pimenta dioica tree. It’s also called “pimento dram,” owing to some olden confusion between “pimento” (a Portuguese word for peppers) and “pimenta.”
Despite the lingustic confusion, there’s no pepper flavor in allspice dram. Rather, it’s a wonderful mix of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove flavors, reminiscent of Christmas to some, or the flavors of jerk chicken or Middle Eastern cuisine.
